Life Plan

The Life Plan is the long-horizon planning layer in Thrive. Where inbox tasks handle today's work and big plans cover the next few weeks or months, the Life Plan is where you step back and think about the whole arc of your life — who you want to be, what you want to achieve, and how the years and decades ahead might look.

Purpose

Most planning tools operate at the level of tasks and projects. The Life Plan operates at the level of chapters, goals, and milestones — the kind of things that take years to materialise, span many projects, and define a life rather than a week.

The Life Plan gives you:

  • A structured place to capture your long-term vision.
  • A timeline of chapters that carve your life into meaningful phases.
  • A tree of goals that represent what you are working towards.
  • Named milestones that mark important moments in time.
  • Projects that act as long-lived containers, linking goals and tasks.
  • A Life Weeks grid to keep perspective on the finite nature of time.

Everything in the Life Plan feeds downward into the rest of Thrive. Projects group tasks, habits, chores, and big plans. Goals are associated with projects. Chapters reference milestones. This makes the Life Plan the connective tissue of the whole system.

Settings

The Life Plan stores two key settings:

  • Birthday and Birth Year — your date of birth. These are used to anchor relative dates and to render the Life Weeks view.
  • Max Age — the maximum age used for the Life Weeks grid (default: 100).

Periodic Evaluation

The Life Plan supports an optional evaluation workflow that reminds you to step back and review your vision, goals, and chapters at regular intervals.

When enabled, Thrive generates an evaluation inbox task at a chosen cadence: monthly, quarterly, or yearly. You configure:

  • Eval ApproachTask (generate a reminder task) or None (disabled).
  • Eval Periods — which cadences to generate tasks for.
  • Generation Advance — how many days before the period ends to create the task.

Sub-Concepts

The Life Plan is composed of five sub-concepts, each documented separately:

Concept Description
Vision A free-form document describing who you want to be and what you want your life to look like.
Chapters Time-bounded phases of your life, each associated with a project.
Goals A hierarchical tree of things you are working toward, linked to projects.
Milestones Named, dated events that mark important moments in your life.
Projects Long-lived containers that link the Life Plan to everyday tasks, habits, chores, and big plans.
Life Weeks A visual grid showing every week of your life.
