Vision
A Vision is a free-form document that captures who you want to be and what you want your life to look like. It is the highest-level, most personal part of the Life Plan.
Purpose
The Vision is not a plan or a to-do list. It is a narrative or a set of reflections — a description of the kind of life you are aiming to build. Think of it as the answer to: "If everything went well, what would my life look and feel like?"
Having a written Vision gives your goals, chapters, and daily work a sense of direction and meaning. The periodic evaluation workflow is designed to keep the Vision alive and up to date.
Status
A Vision moves through three statuses:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Being written, not yet the guiding vision. |
| Active | The current, guiding vision for your life. |
| Old | A past vision, kept for reference. |
There is at most one Active vision at any time. When you mark a draft as active, any previously active vision is automatically moved to Old.
Content
A Vision has a single note attached to it, which is where you write its actual content. Thrive does not impose any structure on this note — use whatever format works best for you (prose, bullet points, sections for different life domains, etc.).
Workflow
- Create a new Vision — it starts in Draft status.
- Write your vision in the attached note.
- When ready, mark it as Active. This becomes your current guiding vision.
- Over time, create new drafts to reflect how your thinking evolves. When a new draft is ready, promote it to active and the old one is archived.
Accessing Visions
Open the Life Plan section from the sidebar, then choose Vision from the menu. You can view your current active vision, browse past visions, and create new drafts.
